At ENERO Arquitectura, we are celebrating 20 years dedicated to imagining and building spaces that improve people’s lives. To commemorate these two decades, we have brought together 20 representative projects that explain our way of understanding architecture through 20 key ideas.

Each work reflects a fundamental concept that has shaped our journey: sustainability, humanization, technological innovation, care for heritage, industrialization, integration with the environment, and wellbeing. This overview sums up not only what we have built, but also what we believe architecture can contribute to the future.

20 YEARS OF COMMITTED WORK

At ENERO Arquitectura, we are celebrating twenty years dedicated to imagining and building spaces that improve people’s lives. The practice was founded in 2006 with a clear idea: to understand architecture as a tool at the service of wellbeing, capable of responding to complex needs without giving up sensitivity, innovation, and technical rigor. Two decades later, that way of understanding the profession has translated into a solid and recognizable trajectory, built project by project, with a constant eye on the future.

Over these twenty years, ENERO Arquitectura has developed more than 3,400,000 square metres of projects, of which more than 600,000 square metres have been built. These figures reflect the scale of the work carried out, but also the diversity of contexts and programs addressed. Healthcare architecture, biosafety facilities, heritage rehabilitation, and hotel projects make up a body of work in which every intervention has been understood as an opportunity to provide real value to those who use it.

This growth has been possible thanks to a multidisciplinary team of around thirty-six people, with offices in Madrid and Barcelona. The structure of the practice, based on a collaborative and hybrid working model, strengthens its presence across the Iberian Peninsula and makes it possible to tackle complex projects from a comprehensive perspective. Architects, architectural technologists, and specialist profiles work in a coordinated way through all phases of the process, from strategic conception to execution, always keeping the end user at the center of every decision.

The celebration of this anniversary coincides with a renewal of the firm’s identity. It is a natural evolution that reflects the maturity achieved without losing the essence of its origins. Under the slogan “We design the where”, we bring together the innovation that has marked our trajectory with an image of elegant lines representing our architecture. We want to share communication that is inspirational, positive, and aligned with the evolution of human beings and their drive to pursue their goals.

In the field of healthcare architecture, ENERO has taken part in the design, expansion, and transformation of many hospitals that today stand among the most important on the national scene. New hospitals, comprehensive refurbishments, and master plans have made it possible to work in leading healthcare centers, always from a perspective that combines efficiency, technology, sustainability, and humanization. The experience accumulated in this field has consolidated the practice as an active contributor to the improvement of healthcare environments in Spain.

20 IDEAS THAT DEFINE OUR IDENTITY

Throughout these twenty years, at ENERO Arquitectura we have gradually consolidated a language of our own and a set of values that run through our work regardless of scale or program. More than styles or formal solutions, we are talking about ideas that recur, adapt, and evolve, and that have ultimately come to define the identity of the practice.

One of the fundamental ideas is people-centered architecture. Every project begins with a deep understanding of the user and their experience. In hospitals, this translates into clearer spaces, understandable routes, environments that reduce stress and provide emotional support. In heritage or hotel projects, it means respecting the memory of the place and improving comfort without losing authenticity.

Sustainability is another cross-cutting idea. Not as a one-off gesture, but as a strategy integrated into design. Optimizing orientation, making use of daylight, solar control, energy efficiency, and the responsible selection of materials are all part of the practice’s DNA. It appears both in large hospitals and in complex refurbishments, showing that it is compatible with very different contexts.

Technological innovation has accompanied the evolution of the practice from the very beginning. The use of advanced methodologies such as BIM environments, the incorporation of industrialized construction solutions, and the development of complex envelopes allow ENERO to tackle projects with high technical demands. Technology is a tool that enables us to improve architectural quality and process efficiency.

Another key idea is functional clarity. Especially in healthcare architecture, the organization of flows, sectorization, and future flexibility are decisive. Many of the firm’s projects are conceived as systems capable of growing, adapting, and transforming without losing coherence. Architecture is designed with a long-term vision.

Respect for context and built memory defines interventions in heritage. ENERO Arquitectura works by listening to the existing building, understanding its construction logic and its historical value. The interventions seek to update spaces without creating false historicism, differentiating the new through coherence and rigor.

All these ideas come together in a shared vision. ENERO Arquitectura designs architecture that works, moves, and endures. These twenty projects and twenty ideas do not function as a closed list, but as an open system that continues to grow with every new commission.
